What if I were to tell you I have a stretch that can improve your neck discomfort in just a few minutes? Would you be interested?

I know what you’re thinking; how can one stretch do so much? Well, if you are like most of us, the neck and shoulders are your number one trouble spots. As a result, we are constantly looking to reduce discomfort without medication and as quickly as possible.

The stretch:

Most should find this very easy to do with minimal effort. First, place your hands on the top of your head; approximately where your head seems to curve is best.

Place hands on the top of your head.

Now put your chin to your chest. Do not push your head into your chest; let gravity do the work!! You should feel a slight pull in the base of your skull and maybe some pulling in your mid-back. Do your best not to lean over; remain as vertical as possible. Hold this position for 20-30 seconds once or twice daily.

Let gravity do the work, don’t push down.

This movement stretches out the trapezius (traps), which is a primary culprit for neck pain for most of us. Stretching daily will help to loosen up and increase circulation to the muscles in the neck area. Try this and other stretching routines a couple of times a week. I will almost bet you will feel the difference.

Let me know how this stretch works for you in the comments below. And if you sit behind a desk or even a wheel, check out my other blog: Stretching for the Desk jockey.
